President's Pen - March 2022

March 7, 2022

Let's hope that the last of the winter storms is finally behind us and we can finally welcome the warmth of spring.  For the first time in several years, however, spring is bringing with it higher interest rates, rising quickly over 4%, and I know that all of us in this industry are trying to evaluate what exactly that means moving forward.

I recently returned for the International Builder Show in Orlando, the first in-person event in a couple of years, and I couldn't have been more excited to experience it.  I've been to the IBS a handful of times before and I always leave feeling inspired and encouraged knowing the advancements our industry is making every single year.  If you have ever considered attending, I highly recommend it!

While I was there I got the chance to speak with various suppliers and discuss the challenges they've been facing over the last two years.  All over the country, they are experiencing material shortages but they assured me that they are doing everything they can to ease the strain.

During our last board meeting we discussed at length the direction that the HBA is headed and during that conversation the state of our HBA office was brought up.  We decided to make a commitment to refurbishing the building, making it more well suited to our needs as well as maintaining the historical beauty of the building.  If you would like to be a part of this endeavor and want to devote any time or resources, please contact me or Rebecca.

I want to personally thank Alex Miller of Star Homes for stepping up and becoming the head of our Workforce Development Committee.  This group is designated to help aid organizations in the pursuit of educating and investing in the next generation of our industry.  If you would like more information about how you could help, please let me know or Rebecca know.

With warm weather comes more HBA events so please make sure to check our event calendar on our website.  I look forward to seeing you all there!

Luke Hoffman
HBA Fort Wayne President
