Rolling Up Our Sleeves for Membership

February 3, 2020

What an exciting opportunity to attend the 2020 HBA Inaugural. Everything I’ve heard, it seems good times were had by all. Thank you to Beth and April for your work in pulling this night off and look forward to the other events scheduled for this year. You can view our upcoming events further in the Impact or on the HBA website.

Our Mission:
The Home Builders Association of Ft. Wayne, Inc. supports all segments of the residential building industry through advocacy, education, workforce development, networking and community involvement.

To carry on from last month and our Strategic Plan, lets focus specifically on membership. While membership is important every month, I’d like to take a few minutes to discuss why it’s important. Outside of all the membership perks, including discounts, rebates and many others, membership is important because it helps us grow our five pillars, which include membership, workforce development, government-regulatory affairs, event networking and public relations.

An increased number of members mean more people willing to roll up their sleeves and help with planning or assisting at our event. It means more people willing to serve on the board, other committees, or stepping in to fill short-term needs. Yes, the extra dues income from increase membership helps as well, but it’s much more than just collecting money. New members, and existing members, have a team of people advocating for them and their businesses here locally, at a state level through the Indiana Builders Association (IBA) and nationally through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

But, it’s not all about bringing members in. We also need to focus our attention on retaining current members. The HBA of Fort Wayne has added several touch points with members throughout the year to engage current members and build relationships, even if those members are not as involved as others. If you have questions on anything, please feel free to reach out to me and I will do all I can to assist.

My goal in showing you this is not only to be held accountable, but to show you everything going on if you were not aware. Where do you think you could get plugged in? Maybe its just asking one prospective member a month to join and now you have another reason why.

Membership Pillar
Membership is not only focused on new members but also on meeting the needs of current members.
Who have you asked about membership lately? Do you have friends or people you do business with outside the construction fields that align with our mission? Ask them about membership!

Have a great month everyone,
Greg Gerbers
HBA President
