Somehow our calendars have turned another page, and the month of November is upon us. November is a month that could be found under the definition of the word, “Juxtaposition” because the sights of fall are on full display with the sounds and thoughts of winter. The leaves on the trees are still in display of their fall foliage, but if we turn the radio on we can hear Christmas music. Pumpkins and hay bales on a front porch can be seen on display next to a front porch with Christmas decor. As builders we rush to make sure homes start, while we begin to think about spring starts for next year. It’s hard to not develop a smile when thinking about these things, because we are fortunate enough to live in a country where we have so much to be thankful for, yet so much to look forward to.
This past month we had the opportunity to come together for our annual Chili Cook-off (pictures at right). This is always a fun event, and one that is even more important. We are able to raise funds for the Fort Wayne Career Academy through this event. We can be thankful that we are using our time and resources to help the students today and simultaneously be thankful that we are helping arm these students with the training and knowledge they need to enter the workforce in areas where our industry so desperately needs them.
One item I would like to pass along is that the HBA office is a Toys for Tots drop-off this year. We are accepting donated items beginning November 1. Please consider donating to this cause. Toys can be dropped off during regular business hours.
November 13 is our General Membership Meeting. Our meeting will be taking place at the newly opened Junior Achievement facility. Dr. Deborah Mcmahan will be speaking to us on Opioid Addiction within the region and construction industry. This is a heavy topic, but needs addressed as this is a crisis in our society today. This is a great opportunity to learn about this topic, and how it can relate to us as business leaders, friends, and co-workers.
Have a great month everyone,
Tyler Kees
