The Home Builders Association of Ft. Wayne, Inc. supports all segments of the residential building industry through advocacy, education, workforce development, networking and community involvement.
BA membership is always important, so first and foremost, I’d like to extend a special thank you to all who participated in our October membership drive. Your efforts are appreciated. We ended up with 25 new members—just 5 short of our goal.
This month, I’d like to concentrate on the Government-Regulatory Affairs pillar of our Strategic Plan, which plays a key role in keeping our voices heard among legislators.
Locally, our concentration on Government-Regulatory Affairs focuses on attaining three goals:
Dedicate HBA resources toward monitoring and reviewing new building codes through our Codes Committee.
When the new code was adopted in December 2019, the Codes Committee met once a month to review the material. Committee members reviewed every chapter, and provided notes of concern and supported reasoning to the state, with regard to what should and should not be passed.
Reinvigorate our Government Affairs Committee to have 7-10 active members.
This goal is still a work in progress. If you have an interest in, or are involved in local politics, we encourage you to join this committee as we prepare for the upcoming election season.
Engage up to 50% of our members to register for Voter Voice/Builder Link calls to action
You’ve likely seen the Voter Voice information at the bottom of Beth’s emails — have you signed up? This service keeps you informed of current legislative actions through the Indiana Builders Association. Your response to calls of action play a large part in what gets adopted during each legislative session.
With that said, get out and vote! Make your voice heard and elect individuals who help keep housing affordable. In addition, you should have received an email ballot to cast your vote for the 2021 HBA of Fort Wayne Board of Directors. Members have one vote per company, and I would greatly appreciate it if you or someone in your company would take time to cast a vote.
